Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in width overall consisting of a scarlet winged staff in front of a gold sun rising above two purple mountain peaks surmounting two green mountain peaks and enclosed in base by a semi-circular gold scroll inscribed in purple with the words "VALUE LIFE ABOVE ALL."

Symbolism
The winged staff refers to the medical service provided by the Hospital.  Its location in Aurora, Colorado, is indicated by the rising sun for Aurora (meaning dawn) and the mountain forms for Colorado, which also give expression to the words of the motto, "VALUE LIFE ABOVE ALL."  The shape of the mountains suggests the letter "M," the Roman numeral for 1,000, the bed size of the Hospital.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 13 February 1994.
